How to get certificates for long FQDNs

When creating a certificate for a long FQDN I get the error “Certificate CN (primary subject/domain) cannot exceed 64 characters”. I’m aware that a certificate can’t have a CN longer than 64 characters, but it’s valid for a certificate to only have SANs (see example). In the Certify The Web GUI, I would expect this to translate to not having anything selected as “primary”, but I can’t find a way to do that.

Is it possible to use Certify The Web to issue certificates for FQDNs longer than 64 characters?

Hi,

You’re correct, our validation is is getting in the way here. We will review and release and update to fix that, it’s likely to be included in our v7 beta rather than the current 6.x release line.

As a workaround you could add a short name (that you can validate for that cert) as the primary and include your long name as alternative names.
